The “Ballooning in Tuscany” idea started in 1990 with the formation of the Discovery Club which promoted the sport in the central Tuscany area near Siena, about 50 miles south of Florence. Italians have taken to the idea although many of our airborne adventurers are British, German, Swiss, American, Canadian, Brazilian, Australian or Japanese tourists, lured by the picture-book landscape, the long hot summers, the food and wine, and of course, for its artistic treasures.
The location of the launch site is an important element of a balloon ride. They take off froman enchanted valley, hidden below Montisi, surrounded by woods, pastures and a truffle reserve. The valley is a haven for wild animals including deer, badgers, the occasional wild boar and many birds.
Flights are tightly restricted in numbers and availability and filled on a first-come basis. Reservations are final upon confirmation of availability and subsequent receipt of full payment.
