It seems theat we are going back to the Medieval days, a lot of villages will celebrate the Medieval Heritage, from Arezzo to Bevagna there will be held festival and celebrations dedicated to the Past.

BEVAGNA, Umbria

THE GAICHE MARKET, one of the best event of June in Umbria

Mercato delle Gaite 19 to 28 June 2015 Bevagna. It is  considered the most important and reliable medieval re-enactment of the entire European scene and represents a real excellence of the history and tradition of Umbria. Founded in 1989 with the aim of rebuilding with greater historical relevance and great detail the daily life of the inhabitants of Bevagna in the medieval period between 1250 and 1350 .

CHIUSI CHIANCIANO

TRIA TURRIS 26 to 28 June

3 days of Social Medieval Mask dinners, music, parades and Medieval games.

The town of Chiusi is famous for having been one of the 12 city -states , which formed the Etruscan Dodecapoli . And ‘ famous for its Lucumone Porsenna who went so far as to challenge the rising power of Rome … It ‘ also famous for being the cradle of the early Christians , for a cathedral of the oldest of Tuscany …

Little is known of Chiusi Medieval , dark period and recently celebrated that saw the city disputed between the Guelphs and Ghibellines , often the scene of clashes between Siena and Perugia , to the strenuous defense of the insignia of the Republic of Siena from the siege of the Florentines supported by ‘ Emperor Charles V … Here , it is precisely at that time, to the Middle Ages , to the centuries between 1100 and 1300 , which is inspired by the TRIA TURRIS , a reenactment and festival which is held now for four years in the old town in’ last weekend of June, coinciding with the feast of the patron Saint Mustiola (July 3 ) .

June 7 – Merchantia – street market, all day long.

JUNE 11 to 21 – The Terziere Casalino District , each year organize original flower decorations along the city, known in italian, as the “Infiorata. Best days to visit  are June 20 and 21 to assist to the great flower art street performance.

Every year during the Infiorata there is also music and entertainment.

Not to miss: the flower dinner at Barbacane district June 16 at 8.30 PM

CORCIANO

June 19 to 28 – Antichi Sapori – a food festival to taste the enjoy of the past dishes! Where: area verde ex colonia. Every day local food dinners and live music (from 9.00 PM)!

CORTONA

The Archidado Joust traces its origins back to the Middle Ages and was officially created in 1397 to celebrate the wedding of Francesco Casali, the Lord of Cortona, and Antonia Salimbeni, a noble woman from Siena.

The Archidado is organized every year on the second Sunday of June, when people are lead back to the ancient medieval splendor of the city.

JUNE 12 FLAGFLYERS PERFORMANCES, a medieval tradition  at 9.00 PM  in Piazza Signorelli.
The night has come, but the town is still awake. Trumpets and drums are being played while the square is coloured by flags spinning in the air, waving and swishing between the experienced hands of flagflyers. The flagflyers and musicians of Cortona perform an amazing flag-flying show in the rhythm of medieval music, making the audience’s hearts skip a beat at every flag throw.JUNE 13 at 9,15 PM Wedding of Francesco Casali and Antonia Salimbeni

Dames, knights and children dressed in medieval costumes march in a parade along the streets of Cortona to the persistent rhythm of trumpets and drums.
Today the square is a triumph of colours, flags and flowers. Acting company Allegra Brigata entertain the audience with medieval music and songs until the town crier announces, one by one, the arrival of each quarter. The group of flagflyers and musicians of Cortona pays homage to the newly married couple, to the quarters and to the whole town performing wonderful flag-flying shows, which seize the attention of everyone on the square. The tension goes up when, on a drum roll, the first crossbowman is called to the platform.  The newly-wed girl honours the winners, who after celebrating thank God with a “TE DEUM” in the Cathedral and then go back to the streets and the main squares of Cortona followed by the clapping hands of the whole audience.

From June 13 the Historic Florentine Football

The Calcio Storico Fiorentino is a challenge between the four districts of the city: the Whites of S. Spirito, the Blues of S. Croce, the Reds of S. Maria Novella and the Greens of St. John. Matches take place on a field covered with sand, with the costumes of the sixteenth century. The teams of 27 for kicking part deals, sometimes so rude and violent, with the goal of bringing the ball beyond the line opposing the network marking the “hunt” (goal).

 Sunday June 7 THE INFIORATA – In occasion of the Corpus Domini, the event is celebrated every year. Everyone is welcome to participate – even the children – you can do your own design, join a group, work on the ground, decorate the niches and windows with flowers, take on the role of photographer etc…… or just come along to enjoy the spectacle.  Subjects for the designs should be suitable for Corpus Domini : religious, floral or geometric. All gifts of flowers or petals will be highly appreciated, so if you have any roses or other lovely flowers please bring them along.  The Procession for Corpus Domini will pass over the designs around 11.30am to noon and afterwards if any of you would like to gather  lunch at L’Oca as we have in the past that would be wonderful.

6/7 June – Infiorate Spello is an event that takes place every year in the Umbrian town on the Feast of Corpus Christi ( the ninth Sunday after Easter ) . The flowers work a whole night to make rugs and floral paintings that wind through the streets of the historic center of the picturesque village intended to honor the passage of the Body of Christ , carried in procession by the bishop on Sunday morning. http://www.infioratespello.it/

An International Festival at its  58th edition.
